Julie Goodspeed Molzahn dedicated over three decades to the U.S. Forest Service, serving at every level of the agency from local ranger districts all the way to the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service. Her career spanned a remarkable breadth of disciplines, including fire, fuels, timber, recreation, planning, research, conservation education, and climate change. She held roles as District Ranger, Forest Staff Officer, and Assistant National Program Leader.
With eighteen years of direct experience on the fireline, reaching Strike Team Leader status, and thirty years serving on Incident Management Teams in logistics, planning, and incident information, Julie has navigated some of the most high-pressure environments imaginable. She also served as a Line Officer on large fires for ten years, placing her at the center of critical decision-making in the field.
A graduate of Iowa State University with a double major in Forestry Management and International Studies, Julie is a widow, a mother of six, and a proud grandmother of eight. Beyond her career, she has served on local boards, supported charities focused on youth sports, military families, and conservation, and is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolutionary War.
Her writing is deeply informed by this life of service, bringing an unmatched level of technical accuracy and emotional depth to her storytelling.
